Ancestry home town

While this site is one of the more commercial home pages, it includes links to such important sources as SSDI and PERSI.  Also, have fun in the Genealogy Shoppe, opinion polls, and genealogical columns.  Has maps and actual texts of some old censuses and previously unavailable files.  http://www.ancestry.com

Cyndi's list of genealogy sites

This up-to-the-minute, award-winning site is one of the most popular on the net.  At present, more than 25,000 links provide access to countries of the world, organizations, ethnic groups, calendars, family names, heraldry, record groups, problem solving, etc.  http://www.CyndisList.com

Everton's genealogical helper:Web site

This Web site is an offspring of the popular, attractive periodical.  Everton's GH site offers free access to the SSDI.  One may search as a subscriber or as a guest for individual family names, or gain access to newsletters, columns, and research guides.  http://www.everton.com

Another "candy store" site, FTM offers extensive how-to guides, a Genealogy Mall, and a "Family Finder" index.  Users will also appreciate the message board and classifieds section.  http://www.familytreemaker.com

Gendex--WWW Genealogical Index

Rootsweb genealogical data cooperative

A veteran of the Internet, Rootsweb makes a special effort to provide links to actual information, not just to other links.  Two important features of this large search engine are the Roots-L State pages and the Roots Surname List.  http://www.rootsweb.com

US GenWeb project

This page serves as an entryway into the massive GenWeb Project, whereby volunteers from all over the United States post web sites for their states and counties.  This site explains the project in detail, and links directly to sites at the state level.  http://www.usgenweb.org
