Guidelines
for Selection of Scholarship Recipients
Each year, the Committee
awards one $2,000 scholarship to an applicant based on the
following criteria:
- The applicant is a
resident of the state of Maine.
- The applicant is a current
full or part-time student in an ALA accredited masters
or doctoral degree program in library or information
science.
- The applicant has
completed at least one course and has maintained a
minimum B average.
Scholarships are awarded
directly to the individual to defray tuition, supplies,
room, board and other program related expenses. Scholarships
are provided for one-time use only. No continued support for
the recipient is stated or implied. The committee may choose
not to award a scholarship in any given year.
Application
Instructions
Please observe these instructions carefully
when preparing your application. Applications that omit one
or more of the following will not be considered.
- Completed application
form.
- A well thought out essay
describing your career ambitions and their impact on
libraries and library users.
- Official transcript
(photocopies and computer printouts are not acceptable
documentation; official transcripts can be obtained from
your University or College registrar's office).
- Current resume.
- Three letters of
recommendation (family excluded).
The application deadline
is April 1. All application materials must be typed.

Materials submitted will be
held in confidence by the Committee and become the property
of the Maine Library Association. All application
