The
Youth Services Section Interest Group of the Maine
Library Association wishes to encourage the reading,
writing, illustrating and study of children's
literature in Maine; to elevate the status of
children's literature in Maine, and to foster pride in
our native state.
The Katahdin Award,
chosen by the Lupine Committee, is a lifetime
achievement award given by the Youth Services Section
Interest Group of the Maine Library Association to
recognize an outstanding body of work of children's
literature in Maine by one author or illustrator. The
award may be given annually but may not necessarily be
given each year. The award consists of a commemorative
set of bookends or a stone carving.
Criteria
for Selection

The Katahdin Award
is designed to honor a living author or
illustrator residing in Maine who has created a
body of work of outstanding merit.

An author or
illustrator will be considered a resident of the
state if he or she was born in the state or is
currently residing in Maine for all or part of the
year.

Titles to be
considered must be appropriate for children who
are seventeen years old or younger.
Nominations shall be
accepted from librarians, media professionals and
other interested persons. Nominations shall be
submitted to the chair of the Lupine Committee no
later than November 31st.
